Additional Details

Elmer E. Garnsey (1862-1946) was one of the muralists who worked under Edward Pearce Casey to decorate the Jefferson Building upon its construction. "Casey's and Garnsey's designs for the walls and ceilings provide essential frames for the many figurative panels; in addition to their intrinsic beauty, they bring visual unity to the walls and ceilings. And then there is the simple fact that the beholder is more apt to be drawn to the stunning decoration of the setting than to the panels"--Cole & Reed, The Library of Congress: The Art and Architecture of the Thomas Jefferson Building, page 183.
